About 2PAC

Tupac Amaru Shakur, known as 2PAC and by the alias Makaveli, was an American rapper, actor, and poet. Born in New York City on June 16, 1971, he was named after the Peruvian revolutionary Túpac Amaru II. He began his career in 1990 with the group Digital Underground and released his solo debut, 2Pacalypse Now, in 1991. Me Against the World (1995) and the double album All Eyez on Me (1996) followed, along with songs such as "California Love," "Dear Mama," and "Keep Ya Head Up" that remain staples of hip-hop.

His music addressed social injustice, racism, and the hardships of urban life, and his work as an artist and activist continues to reach fans worldwide. Beyond music, he starred in films including Poetic Justice (1993) and Gridlock'd (1997). 2PAC has sold more than 75 million records worldwide, was ranked among Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, his first year of eligibility. In 2023, he received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He died on September 13, 1996.
